CANADA’S INTERNATIONAL BLUES ARTIST
SHAKURA S’AIDA SETS OFF FOR SHOWS IN
MOSCOW, DUBAI, ROMANIA AND SWITZERLAND

Toronto-based blues artist Shakura S’Aida — just back from performances on the legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise to the Caribbean — is now setting off for more international dates.

With her Quebec-based friends Dawn Tyler Watson and Angel Forrest — as Grande Dames du Blues — she’ll play three major concerts in Moscow February 17-19, and then flies for a solo appearance at the Dubai International Jazz Festival in the United Arab Emirates on February 20.

Four days later, she and her band will appear  at the Sighisoara Blues Festival in Romania on February 24. The festival is a three day event that will also feature Johnny Winter and Corey Harris.

Her Toronto-based band, which includes  includes Donna Grantis on guitar and Lance Anderson on keyboards, will perform with her at a private party in St. Moritz, Switzerland, the following week.  Ms. S’Aida, born in Brooklyn, was raised in Switzerland before coming to Toronto which has been her home for the last 25 years.

For S’Aida, this sort of travel schedule is not unusual. Last year, she performed in  Australia, Rwanda (at a festival in Kigali, which she helped organize), the United States and no less than six different European countries. She will be unable to perform at the second annual KigaliUp! Festival this year, because she will be touring at that time in Western Canada. She also has two more European tours scheduled for later in the year, as well as her first concert with a symphony orchestra, which will take place in Wheeling, West Virginia, on April 20.

Her new double CD, Time, will be released on the ElectroFi label in mid-April.
